• Sidewalks that are at least 100 feet away from churches, schools, libraries, hospitals, and daycares
• Cannabis Smoking Lounges 
• Private homes and apartments
• Hotels and motels that approve of smoking

Where Am I Not Allowed to Smoke (or Vape) Weed in New York? 

While smoking cannabis is legal in many areas, there are many locations where it is illegal to smoke in New York City. According to New York’s Department of Parks and Recreation, it is illegal to smoke cannabis in the following areas:

• Public parks, gardens, golf courses, pools, and beaches
• Sports stadiums
• Pedestrian plazas like Time Square and Herald Square
• Restaurants
• Inside motor vehicles (even if it’s parked)
• Cannabis dispensaries
• Apartments where the landlord has banned smoking
• Hotels
• Business buildings

Will the police stop me if I smoke cannabis in public?
