Is Marijuana Legal in Brooklyn?
It absolutely is! Recreational adult-use marijuana was made legal when The Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act (MRTA) was signed into law on March 31, 2021 by Andrew Cuomo, former Governor of New York. The MRTA legalized adult-use cannabis (also known as marijuana, or recreational marijuana) in New York State.
The legislation created a newly established Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) governed by a Cannabis Control Board to comprehensively regulate adult-use, medical, and hemp cannabis. The OCM issues licenses and develops regulations for how businesses can participate in the legalized cannabis industry.

New York marijuana regulators hope that a supervised industry will help ensure the safety and legal delivery of cannabis products in the City and its surrounding boroughs like Brooklyn. New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared the first legal sale of adult-use cannabis “a historic milestone in New York’s cannabis industry.”
