Delta 8, Delta 9, and Delta 10 – Which Strain is Best for Me?

You may have heard of Delta 8, but have you heard of Delta 9 or Delta 10? Do you have questions about the Delta strains? We’re here to help! Understanding the difference between Delta strains and your typical Sativa or Indica strain can be a little difficult at first but we’re here to make it easier on you, bud.

What is Delta 8

Delta 8 is one of several cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and is known for providing calming sensations and mild euphoric effects. However, it is not as potent as Delta 9, so this cannabinoid is less likely to give you side effects.

It is also one of many cannabinoids that are produced naturally by the cannabis plant, but not in a high concentration. For that reason, Delta 8 is usually manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol. The process of extraction is very expensive.

The way Delta 8 THC provides effects is by interacting with your body’s natural endocannabinoid system and binding CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain. Users have stated that Delta 8 provides relaxation and better sleep quality. It has stress-relieving properties, making it suitable to use during the evenings.

It has been discovered that this cannabinoid is also used for medical purposes such as reducing nausea and vomiting, a drug for cancer treatment, treating sleeping conditions, inflammation, etc.

Delta 8 is very wanted on the market, and it is legal in most states across the US, according to the 2018 Farm Bill.

What is Delta 10

Delta 10 is one out of the many cannabinoids that you can find in the hemp and cannabis plants. It appears in trace amounts that are difficult to derive and is less potent than Delta 9 cannabinoid.

Just like other THC-based compounds, Delta 10 interacts with your body’s endocannabinoid system and, as a result, is known to help in reducing stress and tension. This cannabinoid may also provide uplifting effects and support creativity, productivity and alertness.

If used in a large dosage, Delta 9 can also have mild psychoactive properties, but they are not as intense as what its cousins Delta 8 and Delta 9 provide.

How to Discover the Best Infused Pre-Rolls in Tucson

What’s An Infused Pre-roll?

An infused pre-roll is a joint that is not only rolled with premium flower but also includes some kind of high THC cannabis concentrate in an oil, wax, or hash form. Roughly 78% of the pre-roll joint market is infused now, say cannabis industry experts, and the concoctions are getting better and stronger every day. Those looking for a more potent, intense high should definitely purchase an infused pre-roll and have it delivered by Doobie for the ultimate chill experience.

Let’s talk about the concentrates that make up the infusion. They are made from the cannabis flower, processed to retain only the cannabinoids and terpenes. What’s left is essentially powerful concentrate with the non-essential plant material having been removed. Quite often with infused joints, either the flower itself is infused then rolled, or the roller of the joint peppers the concentrate in the ground-up flower and then rolls it up.

The biggest difference between a regular pre-roll and an infused pre-roll is in their potency. In fact, infused pre-rolls are not recommended for novice cannabis users. If you’re trying the infused pre-roll for the first time, start slowly with a single puff or pull and wait for effects to begin before smoking more. It’s also best to stay home in case it hits you harder than you thought. That’s where we come in.

For an epic experience, look for high-quality extracts like resin, rosin, or even live versions of these distillates. On the cheap end would be a butane hash oil distillate-infused pre-roll. Quality costs more, but your health and enjoyment are worth the higher price.

How Do You Choose A Pre-roll?

First, how often do you toke? If you’re inexperienced, or the last time you tried to smoke (but didn’t inhale) was in college, you’re going to want to take it easy and slow. In fact, infused pre-rolls are not recommended for novice cannabis users. Adversely, if you’re a heavy user, you probably want to go right to the strongest thing out there, depending on you you roll. If you’re somewhere in the middle, don’t worry, we got you!

For the occasional recreational user, choosing a pre-roll will depend on what you’re looking for in a high. Kush Family Farms has a nice selection of hybrid blends ranging from 16% to 21% THC, infused with CO2 wax and kief. If this is your first time or you suffer from anxiety, headaches, and fatigue, go for Garlicane Monkey Stix. Twenty-three percent of users who have tried it reported that it helps reduce anxiety. Its effects are calm, happy, relaxed, and energetic.

For something, just a hair stronger that’s more Indica-dominant, do Do-Si-Dos at 19% THC. Do-Si-Dos is an Indica dominant hybrid (70% Indica/30% Sativa) strain created through crossing the potent Girl Scout Cookies with Face Off OG.

For something stronger, move on to Motor Breath, named after its excessively gassy flavor and smell. Motorbreath crosses Chemdog and SFV OG Kush. This award-winning strain produces a flavorful smoke with notes of fuel, earth, and citrus. If you’re an OG fan, Motorbreath is a must-try, but novices should be aware of its potent effects.

For a euphoric experience, GG#4 is an award-winning strain guaranteed to glue you to the couch. “Gorilla Glue #4” is a potent hybrid marijuana strain that delivers heavy-handed relaxation. Gorilla Glue’s chunky, resin-covered buds fill the room with pungent earthy and sour aromas inherited from its parent strains, Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel.

If you’re on the fence about a specific pre-roll, or if you have questions and/or concerns in general, here are a few options. Ask your budtender for a recommendation, or call Doobie’s friendly cannabis consultants at 888-836-6243. You may also consider buying a single just for research purposes. You can either cut it open to inspect the interior – which should look like freshly ground nugs – or just pay close attention when you smoke it. If you smell like a campfire or pick up strong plant flavors, there’s probably trim in the mix, which is a compromise on quality.

For the Occasional User

For the occasional recreational user, choosing a pre-roll will depend on what you’re looking for. If you smoke weed to relax and help you sleep at night, check out the Gelato High Octane by Heavy Hitters. With 60% THC, this one’s sure to put you “in da’ couch.”

Daytime and Productive Highs

For a daytime or more “productive” high, you can’t go wrong with the Maui Wowie Infused pre-roll from Jeeter. Maui Wowie is a Sativa-dominant landrace strain that originated in the 1970s on the Hawaiian island for which it’s named. The strain has been cultivated for more than four decades and has legendary pop culture references.

Hybrid Flower Blends

If you prefer a more mild, hybrid flower blend, Drew Martin has a Lavendar & Passion Flower pre-roll. It’s a low-dose curated blend of sun-grown Sativa-hybrid cannabis and globally inspired botanicals. Their pre-rolls are crafted to be unlike anything you’ve ever tasted and deliberately low dose so you’re always in the room.

The Truth About Terpenes

What are Terpenes?

Indica, Sativa, THC, and cannabinoids are commonly associated terms within the cannabis industry. Recently, a newer term has emerged and has been used with growing frequency: Terpenes.

Also called terps and terpenoids, terpenes are the compounds in cannabis that give it distinctive and often intense aromas, and flavors are popping up in consumer products everywhere. Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in plants and in some animals.

Terpenes have only recently started to become a popular product in the cannabis space. In the last year, many new specialty terpene companies are infiltrating the market as more people learn about the benefits of mixing terpenes into their CBD or marijuana products.

What Do Terpenes Do?

Plants create terpenes to protect themselves from predators or to lure pollinators. They help give the plant flavors, aromas, and colors associated with certain types of vegetation. Some terpenes act as protective agents for some plants by helping them recover from damages and keeping them away from germs and bacteria. While these properties mostly help the plants, what else are terpenes used for?

The idea is that terpenes enhance the health benefits of the products either alone or synergistically with other terpenes, THC, CBD, and other minor cannabinoids found in cannabis. Most research has focused on the health effects of individual terpenes.

Manufacturers isolate these terpenes to make scents and flavors in things like food, perfumes, and other body products. Others also use them to make dyes, pesticides, and cleaning solvents.

Cannabis terpenes are what give strains different aromas and tastes. As the cannabis plant dies, the cannabis terpenes oxidize to become terpenoids. People use cannabis-derived terpenes for different purposes like relieving anxiety, depression, and inflammation–depending on the type.

How Do They Compare To CBD and THC?

There are more than 100 cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant, but CBD and THC are the most common. While cannabinoids and terpenes can help you understand what to expect from a cannabis plant, they are different chemical compounds.

While terpenes help you identify the cannabis strain, they also interact with the endocannabinoid system. The body absorbs and uses them differently than it does CBD and THC. In full-spectrum cannabis, the three compounds work synergistically to give you the entourage effect.

That means they alter or enhance the effects of CBD and THC in your body. A few studies show that people who took CBD-containing terpenes had better relief in epilepsy and anxiety than people who took pure CBD.

Terpenes For Therapeutic Effects

When researching which terpenes are right for you, it is important to know your why. For example, are you seeking pain relief, fighting inflammation, or do you need help sleeping? Terpenes can be added to your oil to help boost a particular set of benefits for your CBD oil.

You can either find strain-specific extracts that have the terpenes you’re looking for or order individual terpenes:

  • Best terpenes for sleep — linalool, myrcene, nerolidol
  • Best terpenes for Inflammation — bisabolol, borneol, linalool, myrcene, pinene, terpineol, nerolidol
  • Best stimulating Terpenes — geraniol, pinene, limonene, valencine
  • Best terpenes for anxiety — caryophyllene, myrcene, nerolidol
  • Best terpenes for pain — bisabolol, borneol, caryophyllene

What to Look For When Shopping for Terpenes

Extracting terpenes requires specialty equipment to do correctly and responsibly. More primitive methods involve the use of toxic chemical solvents like butane or hexane. The best companies in this space are using much safer methods of steam distillation or supercritical CO2 to remove the terpenes.

Be careful and know where your terpenes are sourced, as some companies are selling synthetic fragrance oils under the guise of “all-natural terpene extracts.”  Fragrance oils do not offer any health benefits, and they bring a risk of an allergic reaction, irritation, or other harmful side effects. Some of these compounds have even been shown to interfere with hormone activity in humans (also known as endocrine disruption).
